Moving can be a challenge. Luckily, there are several ways you can minimize the torturous process that is move-in day. By following these tips, you'll be able to have a smooth transition from your old abode to your new home. <\/p>\n

Reduce Your Belongings<\/h2>\n

Before you even think of packing up your stuff, go through and reduce your possessions. Chance are, you have a lot of clutter that you don't really need. Gather old clothes, knick-knacks, and kitchen appliances and donate them to charity. This will make it much easier when it comes time to tote your stuff to your new location.<\/p>\n

Get Organized Ahead of Time<\/h2>\n

While you might be tempted to put off packing to the last minute, don't. This will cause you to haphazardly throw everything into boxes, leading to chaos. Instead, start the packing process at least a month ahead of time. Create weekly checklists of things to do to help you stay on an organizational timeline. Most importantly, use labels for boxes and pack things in a logical way.<\/p>\n

Keep the Essentials Together<\/h2>\n

On the day of the big move, you'll be in such a hurry to unload your truck that you'll probably stack boxes in a random fashion. To avoid having to sift through all of this later in order to find your toiletries, be sure to pack a special box or bag with everything you'll need for that night. <\/p>\n

Change Your Address Early On<\/h2>\n

Because it takes the post office about a week to start sending mail to your new address, it makes sense to give them plenty of notice that you're moving. Ideally, fill out the change of address form at least two weeks before you move to ensure you don't miss any important pieces of mail.<\/p>\n
