4 Ways to Stay Focused

  |     |   College Life

studyingWhen you've got a task that needs to be accomplished, finding and maintaining focus is key. Unfortunately, focus and concentration can often be elusive at the times you need it most. Still, there are some steps you can take to improve your focus and potentially boost your productivity in the process.

Eliminate Distractions

Start by identifying possible distractions and eliminating them. For example, if you tend to get distracted by apps on your cell phone, shut your phone off or place it in another room on "silent" mode. Limit yourself to 10 minutes of break time for every 50 minutes worked—also referred to as the Pomodoro method.

Try Meditation

A little meditation can go a long way in improving your focus and concentration, so if you've been a skeptic in the past, now is a good time to give it a try. Meditation is also a great way to drown out those other nagging tasks or distractions until you've completed the task at-hand.

Play Some Music

The right music can keep you focused on what's in front of you, so find the music that works for you. Generally, music with no lyrics/voices is best for concentration. White noise generators can also be useful in this regard, and there are plenty of free and paid white noise apps available for download.

Enjoy a Cup of Joe

Some people simply work better when they're caffeinated, so if you haven't already had your daily cup of coffee (or tea, or whatever caffeinated beverage you prefer), go ahead and treat yourself. Just be careful not to over-caffeinate, which can have the opposite effect of making you jittery and keeping you from concentrating!

By following these tips, you'll be on your way to better focus in no time. If you're looking for a great environment to work, check out our business center at Highland Village Apartments in Flagstaff. Contact us today to learn more about our amenities!
