Your body needs to be kept moving to maintain both your internal and external health, something that most of us are inclined to forget about at the end of a tough day at work. But don't worry, because we won't force you to turn off that set with our easy at-home workouts!

Start With Stretching 

Here's the deal with working out in one of our Flagstaff, AZ apartments: You're never going to stick with it if you go from couch potato to wall sits. You really need to pick a goal that you'll actually hit, even if that goal is just stretching your arms and legs during commercial breaks. The problem with inactivity is it doesn't take very long before sedentary habits set in. But the good news is that the reverse is also true. When you start moving, you'll eventually want to move more. Even walking around your coffee table is much, much better than nothing. 

Jumping Jacks, Push-Ups, and Lunges 

This combination is a great way to get in both weight-based training and cardio activity while watching a 30-minute sitcom. Start with reps of 10 for each exercise and space them out according to your fitness level and goals. This is not about buying a fancy exercise bike and setting it up directly in front of your screen. You don't need equipment to exercise. Plus, you'll work out your arms, legs, and core with these exercises. If you really want to define those abs, feel free to throw in a few crunches too! 

There are so many ways to stay fit that have nothing to do with giving up one of your favorite activities. As tempting as it can be to zone out until you fall asleep, challenge yourself to do more. Studies have shown that the dark days of winter often cause sadness and even depression, but it doesn't have to be this way. Here's what you can do to fight the winter blues and keep smiling. 

Get Outdoors and Get Moving

Exercise releases serotonin in the brain, and being outside for just 15 minutes a day provides you with the necessary amount of daily vitamin D. Most people report feeling a greater sense of overall well-being as a result of getting outside on a regular basis. Getting outdoors when conditions are cold takes a certain amount of motivation, so promise yourself a delicious cup of hot chocolate or cider after you take that brisk walk on Flagstaff's Urban Trail, which you'll find right outside your door. Treating yourself to a new sweater or pair of cold-weather boots is another great way to motivate yourself to get outside. 

Move Away From the Screen

Most of us think of the new year as the only time to make big resolutions and set new goals. How to Eat Clean This Spring

What Is Clean Eating?

Essentially, "clean eating" means cutting out processed foods and eating more whole foods that are good for you. This includes eating more vegetables and fruits, whole grains, lean and unprocessed proteins, healthy fats and other unrefined foods. 

How to Start Eating Clean This Spring

1. Clean out your kitchen. 

If you’re serious about clean eating, you’ll need to take a look in your fridge and cupboards and do some cleaning out. Remove foods that are processed, refined, or packaged in a box or bag. Most packaged foods have been processed in some way. 

2. Buy some replacements. 

Eating clean doesn’t mean foregoing sugars or carbs — as some other diets require. The point is to choose clean alternatives. For example, replace your table sugar with maple syrup or honey. Switch out pasta for whole grains like quinoa, brown rice or barley.

3. Refine your cooking habits.

It’s time to learn a few new tricks for at-home cooking. Your go-to pasta and tomato sauce or frozen pizza won’t cut it anymore. Instead of these processed choices, gather a group of snack and meal recipes that are quick, simple and clean. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Salads
  • Stir-fries
  • Soups
  • Chicken breast or fish with a vegetable side dish
  • Veggies and hummus
  • Fruit and nut butter

Many of these snacks and meals can be made in advance to reduce time.
